Overview
The Fremont Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) has been working on a major expansion project that will allow the sewer system to treat domestic and industrial wastewater to meet Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations. The expansion projects includes 4 anaerobic lagoons for pretreatment of high strength wastes, aeration basins for ammonia removal, an additional egg-shaped digester for solids processing, a gas scrubbing system that converts methane to natural gas and a new ultraviolet disinfection system. These upgrades make Fremont a state-of-the-art WWTP that will be able to treat the current waste loads for the next 20 years.
Composting Site
The WWTP also has a composting facility that turns biosolids into fertilizer that is used on farm ground in Dodge County and beyond.
