[ARCHIVED] Public Works Project Updates

The Broad Street Project is currently in the engineering phase. The construction phase is projected to begin in late spring 2025, with an advertising period for bids anticipated in early 2025. The timeline for the construction is estimated to extend from May through August 2025. City officials will continue to communicate updates regarding construction schedules and traffic management.

“We appreciate the community’s understanding and support as we undertake this important project,” said Mayor Joey Spellerberg. “Our goal is to improve our infrastructure while minimizing disruptions to residents and local businesses.”

City staff are collaborating with the Nebraska Department of Transportation on signage and have also reached out to local industrial partners to find truck traffic solutions that balance local economy goals with the needs of the community. As an agricultural community with elevators in the downtown area, rail freight ports, and food processing facilities, the city understands that truck traffic cannot be eliminated.

The Kavich Parking Garage Project is currently open for bidding. The estimated cost of the project ranges from $200,000 to $300,000, with an anticipated completion date in April.

Additionally, a traffic study is currently being conducted at the intersection of 23rd Street and Somers Avenue. A meeting to discuss this intersection is scheduled for the week of December 9th. A decision on how to safely address this intersection will be made in January.
