[ARCHIVED] Snow Removal Information

As the weather turns colder, the city has already begun efforts to prepare for the upcoming snow season. With this in mind, citizens need to be aware residential snow removal will begin as soon as the snowfall ends and there has been a minimum of 4” accumulation. Plowing of snow routes will begin when there has been 2" of accumulation. When there is snowfall of 4” or greater, a snow emergency will be declared.

During a snow emergency, parking on designated snow routes will be strictly prohibited. Depending on the severity of the snowstorm, residential streets are usually plowed within 24 hours after the snowfall ends. Residents need to keep in mind it may take longer to clear all city streets in case of a severe blizzard or equipment failure. During residential plowing, crews ask citizens to move their vehicles into the driveway or to a street that has already been cleared.

Snow removal in the downtown area will not take place during daytime hours due to the amount of traffic and parked vehicles. Snow removal in this area is usually done the night following the snowstorm. Depending on the amount of snow, the snow will generally be windrowed to the center of the streets and hauled away.
