The Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) has awarded $525,000 in Comprehensive Revitalization (CR) funds to Columbus, Fremont and Norfolk. NENEDD has been privileged to work with these communities on their CR projects since 2005. Over the past seven years, we've seen revitalization strategies created, streets improved, commercial rehabilitation projects, vacant and dilapidated homes acquired and demolished, down payment assistance and single family homes rehabilitated.
This round of CR projects will involve the following:
Columbus - $175,000 awarded to continue partnering with NeighborWorks Northeast Nebraska in purchasing, rehabilitating and reselling five area homes. The rehabilitation will include lead based paint testing and the reconstructing or upgrading of sewer and water lines in the area. The City is providing $163,000 in leveraged funds.
Fremont - $175,000 to rehabilitate three single family rental homes and three owner-occupied homes. They will also be replacing water mains along Military Avenue from Clarkson to Pebble streets. The City is providing $147,000 in leveraged funds.
Norfolk - $175,000 to rehabilitate four downtown businesses, reconstruct streets and alleys on 1st Street to 8th Street between Norfolk Avenue and Braasch Avenue and 1st Street to 8th Street between Norfolk Avenue and Madison Avenue; street improvements on 1st Street from Norfolk Avenue north and replace driveways and sidewalks to comply with requirements set forth in the American Disabilities Act. The City is providing $161,000 in leveraged funds.
Congratulations to Columbus, Fremont and Norfolk on your CR grant awards. It was a pleasure working with you on your grant applications and we are looking forward to providing the grant administration services for your projects.
