Newspapers on Microfilm

Back issues of the Fremont newspapers are held at Keene Memorial Library. Issues begin with July 1868 and continue through the current issue. Three months are kept in paper format while microfilm is available from July 1868 through June of 2013.

    on MyHeritage. Add names, dates, photos and stories and share with your family
  • Index of Obits - Index of Fremont area obituaries from 1976 - 2004 (as seen in the Fremont Tribune and assembled by a local genealogist over the years). This pdf document is over 500 pages long so you may not want to print it out but save it to a flash drive (it's less than 2 MB in size).
  • Index of Obits 2005-2008 - an expanded list of obituaries from 2005-2008 (as seen in the Fremont Tribune and assembled by a local genealogist).

The staff at Keene Memorial Library is able to provide some assistance with genealogy requests, as stated in the policy below.

Genealogy Research Fee Structure

Keene Memorial Library has a comprehensive run of Fremont Tribune on microfilm. It is available to all individuals interested in genealogical research, regardless of their membership status. Staff members have been trained to assist patrons in learning to operate the microfilm reader/printer, including loading/unloading film and printing of images.

Requests for obituaries and other articles will be filled by staff as time permits. Requests that require more than an hour to complete will be forwarded to a local historian as needed.

Copies may be sent via U.S. postal service (at the cost of $.20 per page plus postage) or via pdf email attachment (at the cost of $.10 per image. Copies will be mailed once payment is received (via check or money order).

Billing structure

  • Requests filled via OCLC / ILL request from another library:
    • First half-hour of searching time at no cost; additional time billed at $15/hour
    • Cost of printing* and postage.
  • Requests filled directly from the library's Info email account/phone calls:
    • Flat fee of $5 per search (up to 1/2 hour of staff time included)
    • Searches that take more than 1/2 hour will be billed at the rate of $15/hour.
    • Cost of printing* and postage.
Note: *For current printing costs, please consult the Library's public services policy. At the time this policy went into effect, the cost of printing from microfilm is $.20 per page.
